Once again the great scouts from Troop 59 were asked to join in the teaching session for many Cub Scouts within the Occoneechee Council. This was Troop 59's second year in a row teaching basic scouting skills to the young Cubs during a weekend learning event. The Cubs participated in basic knots, understanding and learning proper tent setup, fire building, scout oath and law, plus many other tasks that a scout needs to know and learn. This year, there were other scout troops there to help in the teaching and assisting in this great task of doing a good deed.
The Assistant Scout Master, Mr. Fields, headed up this season with the help of several parents, and with the feedback given, they had a great time as well. Weather was threatening rain but held out, only a mild chill in the air but even that only helped to make a great camping experience.
Troop 59 is grateful the Council for asking us to be a part of such an event. Scouts teaching Cubs to be prepared for the next level in their scouting life is a wonderful thing to witness. Who knows, 59 may be asked again to be a part of such a great event.
